Before Installing Total Defense Internet Security Suite

To help ensure a successful installation of your Total Defense Internet Security Suite products, read the following installation-readiness checklist:

  • Verify that your computer meets the minimum system requirements. A full description of the minimum system requirements is located in the Upgrade and Installation Information you received with this product.
  • Remove all firewall, anti-spyware, or anti-virus products from other vendors that may currently be installed on your computer.

    Important!You must uninstall this software and restart your computer before you install your Total Defense Internet Security Suite products. Failure to do so may cause conflicts between products.

  • Ensure that you are logged into your computer as an Administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
  • Save all data and close any programs that are currently running on your computer.
  • Check for and close other current user sessions.
  • For first time installations, have your activation code information ready.

    The location of your activation code depends on how you purchased your product:

    • If you purchased and registered this product online, your activation code and account details were emailed to you in a Welcome email. You can cut and paste your activation code or your account details from the Welcome email.
    • If you purchased a boxed, packaged version of this product, the activation code is located on the CD sleeve or on a package insert.

    You are now ready to begin the installation.

    Install Total Defense Internet Security Suite

    The Internet Security Suite Installation Wizard guides you through the complete installation process. If you need help completing the wizard, click the My Help link located in the upper right corner of the Installation Wizard window.

    You can install Total Defense Internet Security Suite from any of the following sources:

    • An installation file you downloaded from the Total Defense website or a Total Defense partner website.
    • An upgrade file you downloaded from the Total Defense website or a Total Defense partner website.
    • The CD-ROM from a boxed product you purchased at a retail store.
    • A USB removable media device.

    Important!Before you start the installation, please read the System Requirements for each product you are installing. You can find the System Requirements in the Installation and Upgrade Information that you received with the product. In addition, you can easily avoid the most common installation mistakes by following the recommendations listed in the Installation Checklist. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with this information.

    Install from a Downloaded File

    To start the installation manually

    1. If the Installation Wizard does not start automatically, double-click the installation file located on your desktop.

      Note: Windows Vista and Windows 7 users must have administrative privileges to perform this action. If the User Account Control prompt appears, click Allow.

      The installation begins and the Welcome to Internet Security Suite Installation dialog appears.

    Install from the Product CD

    To start the installation

    1. Insert the product CD or USB device into your computer.

      The Installation Wizard automatically appears.

      Note: If the installation does not start automatically, browse to the drive containing the CD or USB device, and double-click the setup.exe file to launch the installation.

    2. Follow the prompts in the Installation Wizard.

      Note: Windows Vista and Windows 7 users must have administrative privileges to perform this action. If the User Account Control prompt appears, click Allow.
